Bulletproof InfoTech is starting to see a number of our clients asking about the new rogue piece of spyware out in the wild today called “Personal Antivirus”. “Personal Antivirus” is not the next best thing in free antivirus software or the next piece of software from Microsoft.
“Personal Antivirus” is spyware!
This spyware works through Trojans installed on your computer which display fake anti-virus alerts on your computer. This message will contain notices which may read “Your computer is under attack” or “malware has been detected”.
The computer systems which Bulletproof has serviced over the past few days have left the computer system stalled and user twiddling their thumbs looking at a computer system which is basically disabled and worried something major is wrong.
While the program is running you will also see the following undesirable behavior:
- A Window impersonating the Windows Security Centre stating that you need to purchase Personal Antivirus.
- Numerous alerts stating that your computer is under attack or that you have malware running on your computer. If you click on these alerts, Personal Antivirus will be installed, or you will be brought to the purchase page for the program.
- Your Internet Explorer browser will be hijacked to show security warnings when browsing the web that stop you from reaching your desired page.
The goal of the malware writers is to have you purchase “Personal Antivirus” from Innovagest 2000. This malware is a clone of some older and similar malware programs called General Antivirus and Internet Antivirus Pro.
